On June 30, 2011, The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) issued a press release in conjunction with Hamilton Beach regarding the following:
Hamilton Beach Recalls Toasters Due to Fire Hazard
WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Hamilton Beach jointly announced a voluntary recall of the consumer product noted below:
"Hamilton Beach® Classic Chrome 2-slice Toasters"
CPSC and Hamilton Bech have advised consumers to cease using these recalled products immediately.
Hamilton Beach Brands Inc., of Glen Allen, Va. estimates that approximately 300,000 units are in circulation.
The hazard associated with these various toasters are such that the heating elements within them can remain energized for indefinite periods when items are placed in the toaster which may ignite the inserted contents, thereby posing a fire hazard should the Hamilton Beach® Classic Chrome 2-slice Toasters be near flammable items.
Incidents/Injuries:
Thus far, Hamilton Beach has received fifteen (15) such reports of toasters which failed to pop-up as intended, including three (3) reports of damage to kitchen cabinets.
Description: The Hamilton Beach recall involves model 22600 toasters with specific series codes. These series codes begin with the letters C or D, and have the format of CXXXXBI or DXXXXBI, where XXXX is a four-digit number ranging from 0190 through 5290.
These model numbers and series codes are printed on the bottoms of the Hamilton Beach® Classic Chrome 2-slice Toasters.
