Napa Home & Garden Recalls NAPAfire and FIREGEL Pourable Gel Fuel Due to Fire and Burn Hazards

Yet again, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has issued another press release regarding a potentially defective product as follows:

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Napa Home & Garden jointly announce a Recall regarding NAPAfire and FIREGEL Pourable Gel Fuel Due to Fire and Burn Hazards.

The retail name of this product, the pourable NAPAfire and FIREGEL Gel Fuel bottles and jugs, have approximately 460,000 bottles and jugs in distribution at present.

The Distributor of these products are: Napa Home & Garden, of Duluth, Georgia.

The hazard associated with these products are that its pourable gel fuel potentially could ignite unexpectedly and splatter on unwary people and surrounding objects when poured into a firepot that is still burning.

This product hazard can occur if the consumer cannot not see the flame or is otherwise unaware that the firepot is still ignited. The fuel gel that collects then splatters and ignites, posing obvious fire and burn injury hazards and risks to consumers.

Thus far, the company has reported 37 instances of product failure as referenced above, inclusive of 23 burn injuries to individuals.

This product looks like a clear, pourable gel fuel packaged in one quart plastic bottles and one gallon jugs and sold in non-scented and citronella scents.

These items typically retail at Bed Bath & Beyond, Restoration Hardware, specialty and gift shops, as well as home and garden stores nationwide. The products are further sold online at amazon.com and various home and garden catalogs.

Injuries from defective products require experienced legal counsel who understand products liability law to maximize your recovery. Defective products cases additionally require experienced legal counsel regarding complex engineering and design issues.
