A product recall involving
Tassimo Single-Cup Coffee Makers by BSH Home Appliances was instituted due to associated burn injury hazards. Consumers should stop using these recalled products immediately.
There are approximately 835,000 of these various Tassimo Single-Cup Brewers within the United States and an additional 900,000 in Canada. They are manufactured by BSH Home Appliances Corp., of Irvine, California.
The product defect associated with these units involves the plastic disc, or T Disc, that holds the coffee or tea. This disc can burst and spew hot liquid and coffee grounds onto consumers who are using the brewer and additionally onto bystanders, posing a serious burn hazard.
The company is aware of 140 reported incidents with these brewers spraying hot liquid, coffee grounds or tea leaves onto consumers, including thirty-seven such reports of second-degree burn injuries. One incident involved a 10-year-old girl from Minnesota who sustained severe burns to her face and neck requiring hospitalization.
This product recall involves Tassimo brewers with the Bosch brand name and Tassimo Professional brewers. The brewers use plastic T Discs that are filled with coffee or tea to brew hot drinks. "BOSCH" and "TASSIMO" are printed on the front of the brewers. "TASSIMO PROFESSIONAL" is printed on the front of the professional model.
