The U.S. CPSC (Consumer Product Safety Commission), in cooperation with
Health Canada and recall manufacturer, Kolcraft Enterprises, Inc., of
Chicago, Illinois, announced recently a voluntary
product recall of the following consumer product:
"Contours Options three and four-wheeled strollers"
There currently exists approximately 36,000 such units in the United States,
alone, and an additional 270 units in Canada.
product defect associated with these Kolcraft Strollers involves a child (or consumer's)
finger which can become entrapped in the opening of the units formed when
locking and unlocking its hinging mechanism. The hinge mechanism on these
recalled Kolcraft Strollers is used to adjust the handlebars on the strollers.
This product defect presents an amputation and/or laceration hazard and
risk to children (as well as the adults handling and adjusting the Kolcraft
Kolcraft and CPSC, to date, have received five (5) such reports of injuries
involving this hinge mechanism, including reports of three (3) children
whose fingertips were traumatically amputated and two (2) adults whose
fingers were either severely injured and/or lacerated.
Again, this product recall involves Kolcraft Contours Options three- and
four-wheeled strollers. The Kolcraft Strollers included in this recall
have various model numbers, starting with the following:
ZL002, ZL005, ZL008, ZL015 and ZL018. On the ZL002 model, the model number
and date of manufacture is printed on a sticker above the left wheel.
On the ZL005, ZL008, ZL015 and ZL018 models, the model number and date
of manufacture is printed on a label sewn into the edge of back of the
stroller pad. These strollers were manufactured from 2006 through 2009
and come in a variety of colors. The strollers were manufactured in China.
