The product liability lawyers at SHOOP | A PROFESSIONAL LAW CORPORATION
again remind consumers about a recent product recall issued by TJX, of
its Gardeners Eden™ light-up autumn decorations. This product recall
is announced in conjunction and cooperation with the United States Consumer
Products Safety Commission "(CPSC"). Please also be reminded
that it is a federal offense to sell, or otherwise attempt to resell,
a recalled consumer product.
The product defect associated with these various light up decorations involves
exposed wiring at, or otherwise near the unit's battery boxes, which
can lead to short circuits, thereby posing an obvious fire and burn injury
hazard to consumers.
There are approximately 4,600 of these decorations currently in distribution
within the United States, alone. This product recall involves Autumn 2013
Gardeners Eden (wreaths) as well as Chinese Lantern plant arrangements.
The wreaths are made of flammable materials such as dry twigs bound together
by wire and twine arrangements. There are additional, LED lights in the
pumpkins, and these, various LEDs are powered by AA batteries, which are
housed in a plastic battery box. For product identification purposes,
style and lot numbers are located on the price tags which are attached
to the units' hangtags. These are the corresponding units of wreaths
and Chinese Lanterns which are being recalled due to fire and burn injury hazards:
667661, 667689, 676074
TJX is already in receipt of multiple reports of the unit overheating from
the field. Consumers are instructed to immediately cease the use of these
recalled products and make sure to remove the batteries. These products
were sold at retail at various TJ Maxx, HomeGoods and Marshall's locations
from approximately August of 2013 through September of 2013 at price points
varying between $25 and $30. These units were imported by the TJX Companies
Inc., of Framingham, Massachusetts, and manufactured in China.
