Regarding the Altadena, California fire, KCAL 9 is reporting that the fire
department is continuing their cause and origin investigation into this
fire which tragically claimed the lives of an 86-year-old woman and her
50-year-old son. The L.A. County Fire Department advised that they were
dispatched at approximately 10:17 p.m., on Saturday evening (March 7,
2015) to a single family residence within the 2400 block of N. Holliston
Avenue, which is located near Altadena Drive.
At the time the fire department arrived on scene, fire crews noted that
the residence was totally engulfed in flames.
KCAL 9 additionally reported that a caretaker residing within the home
inside the home heard an explosion at the residence that night, and that
two (2) people had escaped the flames with injuries, but Betty Kopp (and
her son Robert) perished in the fire.
A preliminary investigation indicated that Robert's body was found
outside the front door, and Betty's body was found within the home.
Both mother and son were pronounced dead at the scene by first responders.
Firefighters stated that they have not yet determined the area of origin
