Recent Defective Engine Problems

In the news there has been product recalls of various makes and models of cars. Certain Volvo models have recalled for engine cooling component defects. These cause the car to shut down on the road at any speed and not restart. Ford F250, F350 and F450 trucks have been the subject of reported oil leaks, stalling and other problems. Truck fleets have encountered problems with C13 and C15 Caterpillar diesel engines. In 2007 Caterpillar introduced a new emissions control package to meet new emissions laws. Since then trucks have been breaking down with losses to truck companies in down time, repair costs and off-route mileage.

Toyota however is most in the news for engine defects. In addition to an earlier controversy over random acceleration, it has since announced a product recall of one million 2005 to 2008 Corollas and Matrixes for stalling problems. The data has come out that Toyota issued bulletins to its dealers on how to repair the problem in 2005 but did not issue a recall until 2010 after the National Highway and Traffic Administration received growing complaints.
