Honeywell Issues Product Recall With Respect to its Electric Baseboard and Fan Heater Thermostats – There is an Associated Burn Hazard

Honeywell International, in conjunction with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPC), has issued a voluntary product recall of its Electric Baseboard and Fan Heater Thermostats. The potential product defect associated with these units is that the thermostats themselves may overheat while in use, which causes smoke and melting.

This poses a risk of personal injury to the consumer by way of an obvious burn hazard, and additionally creates the potential for commercial fires and residential fires.

There are approximately 77,000 such units in distribution currently in the United States and Honeywell International, to date, has received sixteen (16) reports of involved melting of these thermostats.

By way of description, these Electric Baseboard and Fan Heater Thermostats are rectangular in shape, programmable, and used to control electric baseboard and fan heaters. The words 'Honeywell' or 'Cadet' appear on the front of the units, which come in varying model sizes. You can find the product identifiers (model number and four digit codes) which are marked on labels inside of the front cover of the thermostats. The model numbers associated with this recall include date codes beginning with 00, 01, 02, 03, 04, 05 or 06.

These Electric Baseboard and Fan Heater Thermostats are sold at home improvement stores, HVAC and electrical stores from the time period January 2000 to December 2007. They retailed at a price point between $80 and $300.
