Hamilton Beach Toasters Recalled Due to Fire Hazard

Hamilton Beach Toasters Recalled Due to Fire Hazard

The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), in conjunction with Hamilton Beach Brands Inc., announced on December 15, 2011 a product recall of its Hamilton Beach® classic chrome two-slice toasters, of which there are approximately 14,000 units currently in circulation.

The product defect and hazard associated with these toasters is that when the toasters are initially plugged into electrical outlets, their heating elements can potentially energized even though the toaster lifter, itself, is in the up position. Quite obviously, this condition could pose a fire hazard if the toaster is near flammable items.

Hamilton Beach is in receipt of five reports of these toasters being energized when first plugged into an outlet.

This Hamilton Beach product recall involves model 22602 Ham Beach toasters. The model number is identifiable on the bottom of a toaster, which has a chromed steel exterior, and front, control panel with rotary toast selector and multi-function buttons arranged with front-removable, crumb tray and "Hamilton Beach" printed below its control panel.

These products are sold at mass merchandisers and department stores, grocery and home center stores nationwide, from approximately August of 2011 through November 2011. These toasters were sent additionally to consumers as replacement models 22600 toasters which were recalled in June of this year.
