Recall News From The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration

Did you know that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, or NHTSA, is an agency of the Executive Branch of the Department of Transportation and is charged with promulgating U.S. safety  standards for automobiles? NHTSA frequently issues automobile manufacturer  recalls and warnings of known  vehicular hazards on its very useful website, a link to which is provided below:

http://www.nhtsa.gov

CADILLAC / CTS       2009-2010

Manufacturer: GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION - Reporting Date: FEBRUARY 11, 2011

Component: REAR SUSPENSION

Potential Number of Vehicles Affected: 44,147

Narrative:
GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION IS PRESENTLY ISSUING A RECALL FOR THE MODEL YEAR 2009-2010 CADILLAC CTS. SOME OF THESE AUTOMOBILES EXPERIENCE ISSUES WITH A WAX COATING LOCATED ON THE REAR SUSPENSION TOE LINK JAM NUTS WHICH MAY PERMIT THE NUTS TO LOOSEN.  SHOULD THESE PARTICULAR NUTS LOOSEN, THE TOE LINK IS CAPABLE OF SEPARATING AND THE REAR WHEEL COULD POTENTIALLY TURN OUTBOARD OR INBOARD. OPERATORS MAY HEAR METALLIC, CLANG-TYPE NOISES COMING FROM THE REAR OF THE AUTOMOBILE THAT MAY INDICATE THIS "LOOSENING NUT" CONDITION.

Consequence:
THIS COULD POTENTIALLY RESULT IN A SUDDEN CHANGE WITH RESPECT TO VEHICLE HANDLING AND OPERATORS MAY NOT BE ABLE TO CONTROL THE AUTOMOBILE, THEREBY INCREASING THE POTENTIAL OF AN ACCIDENT.

Note:
GENERAL MOTORS' SAFETY RECALL NUMBER 11029.  VEHICLE OWNERS MAY ADDITIONALLY CALL THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION'S VEHICLE SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153).
