Embark Resistance Cords Recall

Embark Resistance Cords Recall

SHOOP | A PROFESSIONAL LAW CORPORATION'S Defective Product Attorney Advice Column discusses a new Target recall involving the following defective product:

"Embark Resistance Cords"

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with Target, announced recently this voluntary recall of Embark Resistance Cords and Cord Kits.

Target estimates there are roughly 447,000 of these Embark Resistance Cords and Cord Kits in circulation right now.

The product defect associated with these Embark Resistance Cords is a black plastic ball attached to the resistance cord's door anchor. This plastic ball can unexpectedly release and contact the consumer, posing a catastrophic injury hazard to users.

Specifically, Target is in receipt of three (3) reports of incidents wherein users were hit in the eye by the anchor ball. Two such incidents, tragically, resulted in permanent vision loss. The extent and severity of the 3rd injury has yet to be determined.

CPSC and Target advise that this voluntary recall involves Embark brand individual resistance cords and cord kits listed below.

A strap of nylon banding is looped onto the unit with a plastic ball attached which serves as its door anchor. The word, "Embark" is printed on the black strap attached to the foam handle and/or the middle of the Embark Resistance Cord itself.

Style Description:

Embark Light (tension) Resistance Cord (green)

Embark Medium (tension) Resistance Cord (blue)

Embark Heavy (tension) Resistance Cord (black)

Embark Resistance Cord kit (set of 3 cords in green/blue/black stored in a mesh bag)

These were sold exclusively at: Target stores nationwide and Target.com from July 2009 through August 2011.
