Kenmore Dehumidifier Recall

Kenmore Dehumidifier Recall

Very recently, the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission ("CPSC"), in conjunction with Sears, Roebuck and Kmart, announced a voluntary product recall of Kenmore Dehumidifiers, manufactured by LG Electronics Appliance Co., of China.

There are approximately 795,000 such units in distribution throughout the United States.

The product defect associated with these dehumidifiers relates to their propensity to overheat, smoke, melt and catch fire, posing obvious burn hazards to consumers.

The firm has allegedly received 107 such reports of incidents involving these units, with more than $7 million in property damage and multiple reports of smoke inhalation injuries.

Specifically, the recall encompasses the 35, 50 and 70-pint dehumidifiers with the "Kenmore" logo atop the unit. These were manufactured between '03 and '05, and were comprised of white plastic. They have front-loading water buckets and the corresponding model numbers are located on the right side of the interiors of these units.
