Recall Issued Regarding In-Ground Pool Water Slides

Recall Issued Regarding In-Ground Pool Water Slides

Wal-Mart and Toys R Us Inc. along with the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission has issued a product recall. This recall affected approximately 21,000 Banzai inflatable in-ground pool water slides. There were several problems found with this product when the CPSC began investigating it. First, they saw that the slide would deflate for no reason while it was being used. This proved to be dangerous as the victim could strike the ground underneath rather than the inflated slide. Not only that, but the slide proved not to be stable and would tip over in any type of weather, not just in strong winds. When the paperwork of the product was examined, there were problems found in the warning labels and in the instructions.

Although these may not sound like the most serious issues, a case in Colorado shows just how devastating these defects can be. A 29-year-old mother was using the slide at an in-ground pool. Since, however, the slide has the propensity to deflate, she fractured her neck when she hit the concrete ground surrounding the pool rather than hitting the slide. The mother died as the result of her injuries. This case is not the only of its kind in regards to this product. Anyone who has this slide is encouraged to return it because of these serious threats to the safety of all who use it. The slide has the words "Banzai Splash" written across it and it has a blue base with a yellow sliding mat.

The slides were produced by Manley Toys, Ltd., a company operating out of China. For four years, both Wal-Mart and Toys R Us carried and sold these slides. They were sold for approximately $250 and the model number was 15734.
