The defective product attorneys at SHOOP | A PROFESSIONAL LAW CORPORATION remind consumers of the Summer Infant Baby Bather recall due to associated fall and head injury hazards. Health Canada, in conjunction with the United States Consumer Products Safety Commission ("CPSC") announced this voluntary recall very recently. Of course, consumers should cease the use of any and all recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed by the Commission. Note that it is a violation of federal to resell or attempt to resell a recalled consumer product.
These various, Mother's Touch/Deluxe Baby Bathers, of which approximately 2 million units are in distribution in the United States (coupled with an additional, 65,000 such units in Canada), are manufactured by Summer Infant Inc. The product defect associated with these units involves its folding, wire frame - which can suddenly and unexpectedly disengage from the hinges, dropping the infant out of the bather, posing an obvious risk of fall hazard and serious head injuries to infants.
Summer Infant and CPSC are currently in receipt of multiple reports of incidents in the U.S., alone, including five (5) reports of infants suffering head injuries from falls from the bathers. Sadly, children two weeks to two months old have received skull fractures, including bleeding on the brain.
This product recall involves Summer Infant baby bathers with a small, nearly square blue or pink plastic base measuring about thirteen ½ inches long by twelve ½ inches wide. Product identifying numbers are located either on the side of the baby bather near the wash instructions. Some units have multiple product identifiers/model numbers. These units were assembled in China.
