Choking Hazard Leads to Carter's Recall of Infant Clothing

The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) recently announced that about 218,000 one-piece footed infant pieces of clothing with zippers are being recalled. The product recall, which was issued on April 11, occurred due to the fact that the clothing's zipper pull can detach, creating a possible choking hazard for young children. Consumers who purchased these products are being asked to immediately return them for full refunds.

There are specifically eight styles of the one-piece clothing items, which each have a zipper that runs along the garment from foot to neck. The affected clothing units have one of the following brands printed inside the neck area: Baby B'Gosh®, Child of Mine® made by Carter's and Just One You® made by Carter's. The items were made for sizes newborn, 3 months, 6 months and 9 months. They were manufactured in China and imported by The William Carter Company in Atlanta, Georgia. These products were sold between December 2012 and January 2013 at OshKosh B'gosh, Target and Walmart stores across the country, with a price range from $7 to $20.

Consumers who want to look up specific style numbers for the recalled pieces of clothing can do so by reading the recall notice on the CPSC website. Consumer product recalls—especially those for infants and children—should be taken very seriously. While no incidents or injuries were reported for these specific recalled items (according to CPSC), an injury can happen at any time while members of the public are still using these products.
