The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) recently announced the recall of WonderStone Infant Walkers, sold through Walmart.com because they present a dangerous fall hazard that can result in serious injury or even death. According to the CPSC, the recalled walkers violate the federal mandatory safety standard for infant walkers because they can fit through a standard doorway and fail to stop at the edge of a step—a design defect that exposes infants to catastrophic falls. Approximately 70 units were sold in the United States.
The recalled walkers were sold in green and pink, feature six wheels, a gray fabric seat, a white tray with a detachable music box, and are identified by Model Nos. 616 and 616-1. Consumers are urged to stop using the walkers immediately and contact Wonder Stone Toys for a full refund.
Product Recalls Exist Because Serious Injuries Can Be Prevented
A product recall is not merely an administrative announcement—it is a recognition that a product may pose an unreasonable risk to consumers.
Federal safety standards governing infant walkers exist for a reason. For decades, unsafe walkers have been associated with devastating stairway falls, head trauma, fractures, and other life-altering injuries. When manufacturers or distributors place products into the marketplace that fail to comply with these mandatory standards, children are placed in unnecessary danger.
Although the CPSC has not reported any injuries associated with this particular recall, recalls frequently occur before widespread injuries are reported. Acting quickly can prevent future tragedies.
Our Firm Has Successfully Represented Victims in Recalled Product Litigation Nationwide
At Shoop | A Professional Law Corporation, recalled products are not simply news stories—they are a significant part of what we do.
Our firm has built a national reputation representing individuals and families injured by dangerous consumer products and defective medical devices. We have litigated complex product liability cases throughout the country involving products that were ultimately recalled or removed from the marketplace because they posed unreasonable risks to consumers.
Our work has helped secure substantial recoveries for injured clients while holding manufacturers accountable for placing unsafe products into commerce. In appropriate cases, litigation involving recalled products also plays an important role in encouraging safer product designs and protecting the public from future harm.
While every case is unique, a government recall can provide important evidence that a product failed to meet applicable safety standards. Experienced product liability counsel understands how to investigate these claims, preserve critical evidence, and evaluate whether a recalled product contributed to a consumer's injuries.
If Your Family Has Been Injured by a Recalled Product
If your child or a loved one has suffered injuries involving an infant walker—or any recalled consumer product—it is important to seek legal guidance promptly. Important evidence should be preserved, including the product itself, purchase records, photographs, and medical documentation.
